General Use FAQs

  • Handmade soap typically lasts three to four weeks with daily use, depending on how often it’s used and how well it’s allowed to dry between uses. Keeping the bar on a well‑draining soap dish helps extend its life.

  • Natural soap doesn’t expire in the traditional sense, but essential‑oil scents may fade over time. For best quality, we recommend using bars within 12–18 months. Even after the scent softens, the soap will still clean effectively.

  • Many of our bars are gentle enough for facial use. If you have concerns about sensitivities, consider performing a patch test before full use or speak with a healthcare professional.


    For the most delicate skin, Bear Naked is our fragrance‑free option. Avoid heavy‑scrub bars (Old Mill Scrub) on the face.

  • Unscented or lightly scented bars made with gentle oils are generally preferred for children. Bear Naked is crafted specifically with sensitive users in mind.

  • Handmade soap contains natural oils and glycerin, which attract moisture. Allowing the bar to dry between uses helps it stay firm and last longer.

  • Small variations in color, texture, or pattern are normal in handcrafted soap. Each batch is made by hand using natural ingredients, so every bar is unique.

  • Keep them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Many customers like to store bars in linen drawers or closets to enjoy the natural scent. A linen drawer or cabinet works well and preserves scent.

  • We choose not to use palm oil because its production is linked to deforestation and habitat loss in vulnerable ecosystems. Instead, we rely on nourishing natural butters and plant oils that create a rich, conditioning lather without contributing to environmental harm. This approach supports sustainability and results in a more luxurious bar.

  • Essential Oils are essences that are obtained directly from plants or plant parts and are all natural, whereas Fragrance Oils are manufactured in a lab and are composed of different aromatic substances.

  • No. We use only pure essential oils for scent, and bars, like Bear Naked, is completely fragrance‑free for those who prefer or require unscented options.

    Why We Don’t Use Fragrance Oils

    At Cascade Wild Naturals, our scents come from the same place our inspiration does — the forests, mountains, and wild spaces of the Pacific Northwest.
    That’s why we choose pure essential oils instead of synthetic fragrance oils.

    1. Essential oils contain natural aromatic compounds — not isolated chemicals

    Essential oils appear on the EWG list because plants naturally contain molecules like limonene, linalool, or eugenol.
    In a whole‑plant matrix, these compounds are balanced and buffered by dozens of other natural constituents, making them gentler on the skin when used responsibly.

    2. We use essential oils at safe, intentional levels

    We avoid high‑risk oils, phototoxic citrus, and heavy concentrations.
    Instead, we focus on conifer, wood, and resin oils — the ones that naturally align with our landscape and offer low irritation potential.

    3. Fragrance oils don’t align with our values

    Fragrance oils often rely on isolated allergens, synthetic aroma chemicals, and proprietary blends.
    These can carry higher sensitization risks and don’t reflect the simplicity, transparency, or nature‑rooted identity of our brand.

  • All our current soap bars are 100% vegan. Future products may contain ingredients like bees wax or honey. Each product page clearly lists its ingredients so you can choose what fits your needs.

  • Handmade soap retains its naturally occurring glycerin and uses simple, plant‑based oils and butters. This creates a creamier, more moisturizing feel. Commercial soaps often rely on synthetic detergents, fillers, and harsh additives that can strip the skin’s natural oils. By avoiding those ingredients, natural soap feels gentler and more supportive of your skin’s natural balance.

  • Natural cold-pressed oils are extracted without heat or chemicals, preserving their full nutrient profile.

  • Our soaps are made with cold-pressed oils rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants. Refer to each soaps ingredients for specific benefits. In general some of the benefits are from:

    • Essential fatty acids

    Help maintain skin elasticity, strengthen the moisture barrier, and reduce dryness.

    • Vitamins A, E, and K

    Support skin repair, hydration, and regeneration. Vitamin E also protects against environmental damage.

    • Antioxidants

    Combat oxidative stress, reduce inflammation, and promote a healthy, radiant complexion.

  • Yes. Plant oils, essential oils, and natural colorants break down safely. Our soaps are made with nourishing oils that come straight from nature. To honor those ingredients, we blend in a small amount of Vitamin E, a plant‑derived antioxidant, that helps protect the oils as they age. It keeps each bar at its best without relying on synthetic preservatives, staying true to the way we craft: simple, natural, and intentionally made.

  • Cascade Wild Naturals uses the cold-processed method which retains natural glycerin, whereas commercial "beauty bars" often remove it.

  • We are strictly 100% palm oil free. Instead of using palm oil, which is often linked to deforestation, we rely on a skin-loving blend of cocoa and shea butters to create a hard, long-lasting bar with a rich, creamy lather.

  • The Art of the Blend: We don’t just scent our soap; we compose it. Every bar features a proprietary blend of therapeutic-grade essential oils, layered with "scent anchors" like kaolin clay to ensure the fragrance matures beautifully and lingers gently on your skin after the shower.

    While many commercial brands use synthetic "fragrance oils" for ease and to cut costs, we avoid them entirely to ensure our soaps remain 100% phthalate-free and safe for those with sensitive skin. When you smell a Cascade Wild bar, you are experiencing the authentic, raw essence of the scents directly from nature.

  • We use only pure essential oils and keep all usage rates within the 2021 IFRA safety guidelines. Even so, natural botanicals can affect individuals differently.

    While our essential oil blends are pure and synthetic-free, they are not always compatible with all skin types. For those with extreme botanical sensitivities or for use on infants, we recommend our Bear Naked Soap, which is entirely free of added oils or scents.

    Cedarwood & Fir

    • Generally well‑tolerated, though they may cause irritation for very sensitive individuals. Avoid use on children under 2 or during pregnancy unless advised by a healthcare professional. These oils appear in Forest Air and Old Mill Scrub.

    Clary Sage

    • Should be avoided during pregnancy as it may stimulate contractions.

    Juniper Berry

    • Best avoided by those with kidney disease or severe kidney inflammation.

    Lavender

    • Safe for most people, but can trigger reactions in a small percentage of users. Not recommended for those with eczema or known fragrance sensitivities.

    Rosemary

    • Generally advised to be avoided by individuals with epilepsy or high blood pressure due to its stimulating properties.

    Sage

    • A potent essential oil that should be used sparingly. Not advised for pregnant individuals or those with epilepsy.

    Wintergreen

    • Aspirin Sensitivity: Must be avoided by anyone with an allergy or sensitivity to aspirin (salicylates).

    • Medical Contraindications: Not for individuals on blood-thinning medications (anticoagulants), those with bleeding disorders, or anyone scheduled for surgery within two weeks.

    • Pregnancy & Nursing: Strictly avoid during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

    • Child Safety: Not recommended for children under 12. Due to the risk of Reye’s Syndrome, avoid use on children or teens recovering from viral infections.

    General Safety Note

    If you have concerns about sensitivities, consider performing a patch test before full use or speak with a healthcare professional.

  • Bear Naked is our fragrance‑free, essential‑oil‑free bar designed for people who are sensitive or allergic to many ingredients, including children.

  • Pregnant and nursing women are advised not to use Essential Oils without the medical advice of a physician, as they can have effects on certain hormone secretions and it is unclear whether these effects are transferable to babies at these stages of development. Some Essentials Oils can also potentially encourage bleeding. Always consult your physician or a reputable Aromatherapist before using any Essential Oil. Some oils to refrain from using throughout pregnancy include Ajowan, Basil, Camphor, Cedarwood, Chamomile, Clary Sage, Cypress, Fennel, Hyssop, Juniper Berry, Marjoram, Rose Geranium, Rosemary, and Thyme.

  • All of our soaps use essential oils or the carrier oil and butters to create any scent meaning every soap is Synthetic-Free & Fragrance-Free.

    Bear Naked Soap is only scented by nature, the natural cocoa butter. No other essential oil is added.

  • Most commercial soaps are made with synthetic detergents, artificial fragrances, and chemical hardeners. They clean, but they don’t care for your skin and, they certainly don’t honor the places we call home.
